RevoluSun, Hawaii’s leading solar provider, had a busy week of both empowering others and being honored for leading in environmental stewardship. RevoluSun was awarded the Hawai‘i-Based Company Award at the 12th Annual John Kelly Environmental Achievement Awards held on November 15. As one of the biggest solar companies in Hawaii, RevoluSun is committed to creating cleaner, smarter communities that embrace a sustainable future. Through Project EmPower, the company’s community outreach arm, RevoluSun provides resources, support and education to non-profits like Habitat for Humanity, environmental organizations like Surfrider and community groups like Aloha Medical Mission. To date, RevoluSun has donated more than $500,000 to support the community.
The Surfrider Foundation’s Oahu Chapter presented RevoluSun’s Chief Innovation Officer Eric Carlson with the award on the sacred grounds of Waimea Valley. On the 30th anniversary of the Surfrider Foundation, the Oahu Chapter honored those who protect Hawaii’s precious coastal areas and share their commitment to Preserving Sacred Places. The 12th annual awards dinner celebrated John Kelly, the legendary waterman and environmental leader who started Save Our Surf (SOS) and fought to protect Hawaii’s coastlines from overdevelopment. Kelly and SOS helped to save more than 140 surf sites on Oahu and around the state of Hawaii, while also stopping many destructive developments. Environmental leaders like Kelly are honored by the Surfrider Foundation through this event.
Earlier that same day, RevoluSun presented the winners of the first-ever Ultimate Sand Sifter Challenge by Sustainable Coastlines and KUPU with a $2,500 prize. RevoluSun uses its own tricked-out sand sifter at its annual beach cleanup with Surfrider Foundation each July, and was glad to see an event aimed at getting more people involved and innovative about removing microplastics from our beaches.
“The Winner was Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks,” said Sustainable Coastlines Executive Director Kahi Pacarro. “Upon winning they announced that all the money they win will be going back into the community by enhancing their educational facility in Kailua, their island restoration projects, and what I think is most amazing, they donated $300 to second place and $200 to third.”
Finally, at Pacific Business News’ 14th Annual Business Leadership Hawaii event at the Sheraton Waikiki last Thursday evening, RevoluSun was honored as a finalist in the new category for Leaders in Sustainability.
“It was a whirlwind of events that really show what we are all about — walking the walk of what green technology can do to empower communities,” said RevoluSun Chief Innovation Officer Eric Carlson. “We are passionate about helping people generate their own power using indigenous, renewable resources. With that comes an innate stewardship for the land and the ocean. Cleaning the beach, helping spread awareness and empower innovation of tools like sand sifters or solar suitcases for medical use is all just part of our core values of sustainability at RevoluSun.”
