0:00 Trini: The energy innovation segment with revolution we’re learning how to turn our home into a cool home take a look. It’s summer and it is hot so if you are looking for ways to cool off your home there are lots of ways that RevoluSun can help. Now I am here with David Gorman and his beautiful wife Tracy and they’re gorgeous daughter McKenzie. We are in their home and you’ve done a lot of different things to help keep the temperatures manageable in your home.
0:28 David: We did. So we bought our house about a year and a half ago and it was dark and it was hot and we were running the AC on high and the summers it just got really hot we had open beam ceilings and that heat from outside would just come into the house and it was really pretty miserable.
0:42 Trini: Traci is he exaggerating? Because I walked in today and it’s cool, it’s bright.
0:46 Traci: It’s true, definitely yes I mean besides the obvious, you know that the AC of course helps but it’s the fan that circulates the cool air and then most of all the Whole House Fan and that takes out all the hot air once you come home but it’s also because we have three kids we’re concerned with the quality of the air and it, it sucks out all the VOCs the volatile organic compounds in the house and circulates the air so that’s, that’s the most part of the most important part for me
1:15 Trini: But there was other things that you guys did too?
1:18 David: Yes so for one we were open beam ceilings in here and so we put drywall over them and we put insulation in between the beans so that gave us an insulating layer to the outside and then we also have to reroof and so we chose Certainteed Solaris solar reflective shingles so they have ceramic granules and they reflect a lot of the UV that keeps a lot of heat from even coming into the house to begin with so we work with JoyAce roofing so they do. I’m all of the roofing with us and a lot of our clients are installing PV systems actually taking advantage of the opportunity to you know address the roof all they’re doing the PV and just you know kind of get it all over with one shot.
2:00 Trini: Okay, you talk about PV and people can get pretty good tax credits right what how do we know like which PV panels technologies qualify?
2:12 David: So all of the the PV technologies all qualify for that same thirty percent federal 35% state tax credit and then you know consult your CPA but a lot of folks can actually include a they can include the recruit reroofing underneath the PV because it was necessary to do the roof to install the PV system that’s another benefit of packaging it together with loose on you know we can do all the work together and you know have one company to work with for it.
2:42 Trini: Okay here’s another question for you David or maybe even Traci can answer, how much cooler is the house now?
2:50 Traci: Oh there’s no comparison and sweating and the baby would be sweating and now where were comfortable we’re almost going running anymore.
2:58 Trini: Yeah and so tell us a little more about this particular fan because i heard this is a similar fan to what gymnasiums use.
3:08 David: Yes, so this is the residential version of its by the Big Ass fan company can see that on TV but this is their haiku series so this is meant for the home it’s a little bit prettier more elegant of a fan but the the main features are similar to what they install and gymnasiums and warehouses and we actually installed this with air conditioning system at Kalaheo High School because it does a really good job of circulating that cool air throughout the room. It’s eighty percent more energy efficient than a standard ceiling fan, there’s a magnet in the motor that helps it run and use less electricity and then this fan actually has their Sense Me feature as well which is optional but it has a motion sensor and a thermometer in it and so I turn it on and we just don’t even touch it when we get home and we walk into the room it turns itself on because it senses us entering the room when we go to bed it turns itself off because no one’s in the room.
4:06 Trini: I love all the Smart technology!
4:07 David: There’s an app, and I said I wanted to be 72 degrees in this room and it will spin faster and will slow down to achieve that air temperature so that’s with thermometer ok so you’ve got the shingles on the roof this ceiling fan you’ve got the AC we’ve got the Whole House Fans in the bedroom so we don’t have to use the air conditioning so much, but you know couple months out of the year it does get so hot that it really helps to have the air conditioning, but at night we don’t really run the AC in the bedrooms we just used the Whole House Fans there’s a lot more energy efficient we’re bringing that nice 72 degree outside air into the room were cleaning the air and having fresh air while we sleep.
4:45 Trini: Well I appreciate you guys welcoming us into your home because it’s nice to know what the different options are you know if you want more information go to the Innovation Center on Ward because you can really kind of touch and ask questions and try everything out it’s also good to know that when we are meeting with RevoluSun you’re not just talking the talk, we are in your home and we see that you are also using all of your products.
5:11 David: So it’s really made the house a better place to live in. We love it. You know what a hot mommy and baby is not good thing.
5:18 Trini: Trust me my husband knows. Thank you so much.
5:20 David: Thank you.
